Well, here we are. Wrapped up another year and have a fresh start for 2022.
Do you need some inspiration for the coming year?
What about some new habits you could implement?
Start the day with time for yourself. Whether in meditation, prayer, exercise, or journaling, start the day by making yourself a priority.
Commit to better communication. Don’t assume the other person(s) know what you think. Clearly state your wants and needs.
Set goals. Make a list of goals for the first quarter of the new year, then ask someone to keep your progress accountable.
Remind yourself that you are only responsible for yourself. Don’t allow yourself to get upset over things out of your control. Breathe and let go of those things you cannot change.
Be kind. Practicing kindness is something everyone should try to implement. This is something that can turn around someone’s day. Be kind and encourage others.
Practice gratitude. People who are grateful tend to be happier. You may even want to implement writing a thank you note to someone monthly. Practicing gratitude requires a change in mindset. Check out this blog post for more inspiration.
Less screen, more sun. Spend less time with your electronic devices and more time outside enjoying nature.
Read one book every month. Getting lost in a story can improve your memory, boost your brainpower, and count as self-care because you are doing something that you enjoy.
Stick to a firm bedtime. Sleep is an important aspect of great health. Try to stick with seven to eight hours each night to help with memory, boost heart health, and reduce depression. If you are having trouble sleeping, we’ve made a list of tips that should help solve that problem and get you some more z’s.
Don’t be overwhelmed with what you aren’t doing. You don’t need to master new habits by the end of January. Developing new habits take time. Maybe you can only commit to one, and that’s ok too. Stay positive and be realistic and always be kind to yourself and others.
If you find yourself unable to implement anything new, your first step may be to review the obstacles in your way then come up with a plan to get rid of them.
Learn the signs that will tell you that you aren’t making time for yourself.
“For last year's words belong to last year's language and next year's words await another voice. And to make an end is to make a beginning." — T.S. Eliot
Kick-off the new year on the right foot. There are wonderful things ahead, so don’t give up!
May this coming year be prosperous and full of health!
